AntiFreeze Your Windows

Sometimes our Windows will hang and become unresponsive. I believe we all encounter this problem before. If you are working on something really important and urgent, and the Windows hang, what do you do IF you did not save your work? Maybe you can try the Windows Task Manager, with the hope it can unfreeze the Windows. But most of the times, Windows Task Manager is not helping.

Can you believe this? I just received an email from Maybank saying that my maybank2u account was blocked due to inactivity or 'becouse' of too many failed login attempts. They asking me to logon the link to restore my account!



Of course, i know this is a phishing email. As online banking become more popular, M2u as the Malaysia's best online banking provider also become target of criminals. For those who are using online banking apps, please be more careful and never click on a url link in email to access the online banking portal.

The term ‘phishing’ describes a scam, or fraud, designed to obtain private information like passwords and credit card numbers. Usually, criminals carry out phishing attacks by pretending to be a trusted party tricking you to reveal your online banking username & password.

Disable Read & Write to USB diskdrive/pendrive

In response to query from Bojovic based on my previous post Disable Write to USB Drive Harddisk & Pendrive



Below are steps to totally disable the use of USB harddrive and pendrive from your computer.
1) run the regedit
2) Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBSTOR

3) then locate for name 'start', type 'REG_DWORD' and set the value to 4

note: if later you decide to allow the use of USB harddrive and pendrive, just set the 'REG_DWORD' value to 3.

Open Source Proxy Server

Do you know that you can setup your own proxy server on Google App Engine with GAppProxy for FREE. GAppProxy is written in Python and run on the Google App Engine. The greatest advantage of the application is you do not need a dedicated server and the speed is very fast.

Before begin, you must register a Google App Engine account and create an application as GAppProxy. Then go to http://code.google.com/p/gappproxy/downloads/list to download GAppProxy, run gui.exe, configure your web browser with HTTP proxy set to 127.0.0.1:8000. Now, you can access the internet via the proxy server.

Microsoft's BING!

Let's 'bing the world'. Microsoft introduce its latest search engine 'BING', to replace its not so popular MSN Search.

Bing has the ability to display a summary of the site that you are searching, just at the right panel of the page whenever you scroll over the list of search result. Currently the Bing is quite clear in the sense that there is no ads here and there compare to Google. See below pictures for the comparison.

Disable Write to USB drive Harddisk & Pendrive

Nowadays USB port & pendrive become very common. It creates security concern for large organizations that anyone can simply plug-in a pendrive or USB harddisk to steal the corporate data.

In fact there is a registry hack that can disable the read/write access to USB devices altogether. User cannot copy data to the USB disk storage, nor able to read any files and documents from the USB drive.



But, if you only want to disallow write access and allow read access, then there is another registry hack of WriteProtect in StorageDevicePolicies registry key that you can make use of. Just follow below few steps:
1) run the regedit
2) Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control

3) Create a New Key named as StorageDevicePolicies

4) Highlight StorageDevicePolicies, and then create a New DWORD (32-bit) Value named as WriteProtect

5) Double click on WriteProtect, and set its value data to 1.

What is ChessTweets?

ChessTweets is the newest generation of correspondence chess. ChessTweets uses the Twitter API to send chess moves remotely to your opponent by using any of Twitter's versatile status update methods. Igor Stravinsky ? When i saw this front page in google search, i also wonder who is Igor Stravinsky ? According to Wikipedia, Igor Stravinsky was a Russian composer, pianist, and conductor, considered by many to be one of the most important and influential composers of 20th century music.

Google Calendar

My 1st day using google calendar. Did not see any special features compare to others calendar applications. You can view your calendar by Day, Week, Month, also a email reminder for the events you set. What really grab my attention is google calendar allow you to sync the calendar with your iphone. All your changes to calendar from your computer or iphone will always synchronized. But before you setup google Sync, make sure you backup your contacts, calendar events & important data. Your iphone need to has at least version 2.2 firmware in order to setup google Sync, u can check your version in Settings > General > About > Version.

Are u stil using feedburner ? Google will move all the feedburner accounts to their google accounts by 28th feb 2009. In case u stil not yet update your feedburner to google's account by 28th feb, then u will no longer able to access your account at feedburner.
